How to present your disagreement?

Here you will find some expressions to present your agreement or disagreement.

IMPORTANT: Common mistakes to avoid when rebutting:

a) Avoid getting trapped in personal attacks or emotions: Emotional attacks can weaken your position. Stick to the facts and evidence.

b) Ignore your opponent’s arguments: Be sure to clearly understand your

opponent’s arguments before presenting the rebuttal. Ask questions if

necessary.

c) Use weak or irrelevant evidence: Be sure to use strong, relevant and trustful evidence.

Examples of what NOT to do:

A: I just saw a new study that explicitly claims that this theory is wrong.

B: Well, you don’t know anything about this field, so why should anyone listen to you?

...........................

A: I read a lot about this theory, and I think that it’s definitely wrong.

B: How much expertise do you have with this field, though? As far as I know, you have no formal credentials.
